History

In 1990, the DGAW was founded according to the needs of the reunification of Germany.

Other problems have meanwhile become dominant in the discussion, as was the result of a member survey in 2007:

  • The Europeanization in politics, law and standardization is gathering momentum for all the participants in the development of the new resource economy and materials industry.
  • The new legal framework and the technical development – especially taking into account the recycling economy – lead to considerable structural interruptions in the waste diposal industry which are to be attended, to be processed and to be evaluated.
  • The involvement of the citizens and of the public sector in this process becomes more and more bureaucratic and less transparent.
  • The economy will need new incentives and ideas derived especially from the resource economy and materials industry, if the modern recycling economy strives for a long-term ecological orientation, which has a lasting effect on the manufacturing process.
  • Informatics leads to a great extend to changes of operations and processes of recycling and removal.
  • The enhancements of the materials industry and the resource economy require the development of a more intense awareness of the societal, public and psychological influences.

In recent years, workshops and teams were set up to cover the multilayered subject areas the DGAW is engaged in. These are listed below.

  • Waste is the only Resource of Tomorrow

  • Treatment of Waste and Waste Avoidance is Active Climate Protection

  • Electronic Data Processing in Waste Management

  • Ethics in Waste Management

  • European Union Think Tank

  • REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) and Waste

  • History of Waste Industry

Due to the development of the resource economy and the materials industry which is increasingly gaining in importance, a growing interest in our work at the DGAW association is becoming apparent. This is reflected in the well accepted DGAW events and presentations, and also in the continuously growing membership numbers.
