History

Following an appeal by renowned scientists and practitioners in the field of waste and environmental management in June 1990, the founding meeting of the German Association for Waste Management took place on November 22, 1990. The newly founded association was to attract members from both the Federal Republic of Germany and the (former) GDR and further develop cooperation between them.
One declared goal was the radical improvement of waste management in the GDR with "its components of prevention, reduction and recycling, collection, transportation and treatment of waste as a link between the economy and the environment." From the very beginning, the aim was not to be a purely technical association, but also to represent elements of critical science and other opinion leaders.
Today, we see ourselves as independent thought leaders for the future of the circular economy and, in this sense, are driving the development from waste management to raw materials management. Market,
product responsibility and recycling are our central themes.
With the experience of our board members and members, we create links between production, disposal, politics and science.

30 years of DGAW - Our anniversary

DGAW anniversary brochure:
"30 years of DGAW - development and perspectives". Here you will find exciting contributions from some members of the Executive Board, influential personalities and leading figures from friendly associations.

In 2020, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the DGAW. Over the past 30 years, the DGAW has become a group of interested companies and individuals who want to contribute to the development of the circular economy.

The DGAW has always looked beyond the boundaries of pure waste management and has been a pioneer and source of ideas for a circular and resource economy. We have now implemented this in our new logo in order to communicate this idea more clearly to the outside world. That is why the new claim "Rethinking resources" was also the motto of our anniversary celebration, which we planned for November 13, 2020 in the atrium of TU Berlin. We put together an exciting program with top-class guests and speakers and were delighted to welcome you among our guests. BUT unfortunately "Corona" put a spanner in the works and we were unable to celebrate with you. Postponed is not canceled. See you and celebrate together at IFAT 2022!

In 2015, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary, we compiled the most important developments, moments and memories in order to present the work of the past 25 years in a timeline. On the anniversary page at that time, you can take a look at the development and find out more about the DGAW: www.25jahre-dgaw.de
